Naysayers beware … the EV market continues to eliminate obstacles to EV ownership. GOe3 and others are building the charging infrastructure, more and more EVs are hitting the road, all vehicles classes are being represented, prices are coming down, and batteries continue to improve increasing range.
Now, the commitment from major auto manufacturers is at an all time high:
Ford Motor Company is in the game and ready to compete with Nissan and others for EV market leadership.
According to “Estimate your Payment” at http://www.ford.com/cars/focus/trim/electric/ a person can lease a 2014 Ford Focus Electric for $268/month for 36 months with only $913 due at signing. They are offering $11,750 in customer cash through 9/29/2014. See graphic below for details.
Here is what happens when you factor in the $7,500 Federal Tax credit which is not included in the available incentives:
$7500/36 months = $208.33/mo. Apply that to your payment and you get ($268-$208.33) or $59.67/mo for a car that needs no gas and very little maintenance.
In addition Colorado, Illinois, and California offer state tax credits. See http://www.pluginamerica.org/why-plug-vehicles/state-federal-incentives for details for all states.
Here is the tax credit over 36 months and the equivalent monthly lease payment for each state:
Colorado $6000 tax credit = $166.67/mo reduces payment to a negative $107/mo
Illinois $4000 tax credit = $111.11/mo reduces payment to a negative $51.44/mo
California $2500 tax credit = $69.44/mo reduces payment to a negative $9.77/mo
In other words, with all available incentives you will be paid to drive a 2014 Ford Focus Electric in these states…Wow!
